"10 Things You Should Not Buy New"

I found an interesting article called the “10 things you should not buy new”. I find it very interesting because most of them I have bought new. I agree that if more people were to but things that are used we might be able to help the environment. For example just about everything that you buy has some sort of plastic on it so there is oil in it. If less people were to go and buy that product new and buy it used we could help in many ways. One we would have less waste because a lot of these items just get thrown away after so many years because nobody wants it anymore.
I also kind of disagree with some of them. For instance if I had the money or it was a great deal I would buy a new car. For many reasons, with newer technology it would probably be safe to say that a newer vehicle would be better on the environment because it would be giving off less CO2. Plus I am kind of picky on what I am going to drive.
Ok I will let you know what the 10 things you are not supposed to buy new are now that I have your attention: 1.) Books, 2.) DVD’s & CD’s, 3.) Little kids toys, 4.) Jewelry, 5.) sports equipment, 6.) Timeshares, 7.) Cars, 8.) Software and console games, 9.) Office furniture 10.)Hand tools
It does make sense if you wanted to save money especially with the economy the way it is right now more people are and should look into buying used goods to save money and help save the environment. I have never really been a “gamer” but I know a lot of my friends are and they would pay $70 or more for one game and about 8 months later a newer and better version of the game came out and you could buy the first one than for about half the price or less.
Well I hope everyone thinks about how much money they could save if they would just look a little and buy a few items used instead of new. Besides a lot of used items are just as good as new.

  1. It is very true that many of these items should be boughten used. My parents have been buying used cars for as long as I can remember. They may have been used, but they were always new to us. The games and cds are definitely items that would be good money savers if boughten used. You can find any game online used and I am sure the price will be way cheaper.
I think the problem is in today's society people think everything needs to be new. They need to be the first one to use the product or its tainted. Its sad to see perfectly good products be thrown away or go unused. I grew up going to rummage sales every summer with my mom and aunts. Some of the things I got at those sales were my favorite toys.

  2. So I don't understand why you should buy books new? What if the book was recently released and you wanted to read it - granted you could go to your local library and they may have it. . . A couple of those things didn't make sense, but the rest of them did.
Little kid toys are great no matter how old they are, because those kids don't care if the object they're playing with is new or old. As long as it is fun to play with.
This is why E-bay is big too I bet, good deals on used items, or new that haven't been opened yet.
But in the long run, buying used would not only benefit our pockets, but also hopefully help with the environment.

  3. I agree that most of those items it would be better to buy them used. However, some items like cars, cd's, dvds, and games it could be risky buying used. The cd's, dvd's, and games you have the chance that they might not work or be scratched. If they are scratched then they may skip or the game might not load at a certain point. Cars are tricky because they are expensive new and quite a bit cheaper used. But you never truly know how the car was treated before and its possible that it could be falling apart and you have no clue. Books seem like one of the best things to buy used because unless they are missing pages, they are just as good as new.
