Patrick Swayze has been in the spot light his whole life for acting. He has come out with some of the best movies of all times, like Dirty Dancing, Road House, and has starred in TV series as well. About a year ago he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He had had it for awhile and didn’t even know about it. When they finally figured out what it was it was too late it had already spread to his lungs. He tried to keep it as quiet as he could but the word got out and it hit the headlines. Most of the headlines were saying that Swayze only has a few months to live. He said that he is stubborn and is not ready to die. Well after proving the News and Doctors wrong going strong for over a year fighting this vigorous cancer he decided to go back to acting being the star in “The Beast”. There were a lot of people who thought he would not have the strength to do acting again with all of the treatments he has been going through, but than again he proved them wrong. Patrick and his wife finally went public about a month ago they did an interview on TV telling the World about his fears of fighting this cancer. It seemed pretty hard for him to talk about it.
The latest in the headlines is that Patrick quit treatment because he was being hospitalized for pneumonia a few weeks ago. But his publicist is denying that and states he is still in treatment. Everyone is saying that they cant believe how long Swayze has lasted with his cancer. Doctors say that with stage 4 pancreatic cancers you usually only live a few months. Well I hope he fights it as long as he can and does not give up hope.

This was a very interesting topic. I honestly had no idea that Patrick Swayze had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I think that it's wonderful that he's beat the odds and is still living after a year of being diagnosed.
ReplyDeleteI think that its great that he hasnt let his cancer slow him down. Being the star in "The Beast" while being in the stage 4 of pancratic cancer is a miracle.
He is proving that cancer doesnt mean the end. My aunt was diagnosted with lymphnode cancer about 4 years ago. And she proved that their is always hope, they gave her 6 months to live, and told her that she would never be able to have kids. After 3 months of treatment, the cancer was totally gone and 2 years later she had a little boy.
I dont think people should ever give up hope and ever let cancer stop them from living.
Your topic brings up a lot of interesting discussions about PR. First and foremost it brings up the question why would anyone ever want to represent a celebrity? You spend 95% of your life combating lies, nipping rumors in the bud, and splashing your client’s life all over the front pages of tabloids, newspapers, and magazines. I am of the opinion that everyone’s life is their own and we shouldn’t fill our tabloids with their joys, sorrows, or troubles.
ReplyDeleteSecond, who is the world of media to speculate on when Swayze is going to die? I just lost a high school friend to cancer 369 days after they diagnosed him. Did the doctors give him a timeline? Yes of course they did. Did we all mark that date off on our calendars and suffer shock when he lived past that date? Heck no; that’s just morbid! It’s kind of like that website that Dr. Vanhorn made us visit last year (I cannot recall the name but it was basically a celebrity deathwatch list).
I believe that Patrick Swayze has not given up hope. Think about how you would be doing if you were in his position. You would be fighting for your life and would not care about what all of the reporters were saying. Even though he was hospitalized for pneumonia it does not mean that he has given up hope. It is obviously the smart to take it easy for awhile and take treatment a little less serious while you have pneumonia. I hope Patrick defies the odds and lives for many years to come.
